Bishop Adhémar of Le Puy

Adhémar of Monteil, Bishop of Le Puy,  was a close colleague of Pope Urban II. He was appointed papal legate to the crusade, and, in the Pope's vision, the overall commander. The disparate nature of the accumulated forces meant that Adhémar could never exert full control, but he was did provide a central figurehead, was he was the arbiter of many disputes between the crusading warlords.

His younger brothers, Francis-Lambert of Monteil and William-Hugh of Monteil, also went on the First Crusade.
